Kaizer Chiefs head coach Arthur Zwane has opened up on their recent decisions to rope in trialists since his appointment as head coach.
After signing the current top scorer of the DStv Premiership Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana and Edmilson Dove after trial periods, Chiefs have opted to go the same route for the January window.
The likes of Bradley Cross were not signed but Balint Bajner, Christian Saile Bambouli, Maurizio Macorig, Neymar Canhembe, and Stanley Ratifo were all invited to the Village for assessments in recent weeks.
While Amakhosi have yet to make an official signing of those invited to train and prove their worth – something Zwane said is their new strategy to avoid signing players not up to the standard of the club for long-term success.
“Why we have decided to do that [bring in trialists], in the past, we just see a good player, now of late, we’re profiling players,” Zwane said.
“I know people don’t understand this but if I explain it further, they will understand why we came up with this idea. We can’t just bring in any player because Kaizer Chiefs is a beast.
“It’s not just another team that you can play for or easily settle, we wanted to see a lot of things from the players – those who are coming, to see if they can cope with our high-intensity sessions.
“Also to see how [they] settle when they are at the Village and we’ll ask him questions while [they] still training there… find out what’s their take, what they think – you know.”
With Zwane adamant they won’t rush or panic to replace Njabulo Blom as they ponder of offering some of their current players and academy products opportunities in the first-team, he hinted they don’t want to rock the boat for the sake of adding bodies.
Samkelo Zwane and Kamohelo Mahlatsi both received their first league starts for the club in the 2-0 win over Golden Arrows which has sparked optimism around the squad again.
“So why would we want to bring in players? So that [they are] willing to add value, willing to learn, we want to learn from them. Be it a foreigner or local boy – but they must come and add value,” he continued.
“So the player might be star elsewhere but not a Kaizer Chiefs player, Because of the pressure that comes with being part and parcel of Chiefs, that is why we’ve been having very good players but maybe first season, they do well and the second season.

“They drop of pressure when they are expected to take their game to another level. We’re trying to test them, their mindset to see if they can cope with everything.”
Fourth-placed Chiefs return to FNB Stadium this weekend to face relegation-threatened Sekhukhune United.
