Lamontville Golden Arrows captain Thabani Zuke says Kaizer Chiefs stand no chance of getting a win over them this coming weekend.
Arrows will host Chiefs when the DStv Premiership resumes at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday (15:30) after the FIFA World Cup finals break of over two months.
Abafana Bes’Thende did the double over Chiefs last season, the first time Arrows have done that to Chiefs in their history.
In beating them twice last term, Arrows joined Stellenbosch FC and Royal AM who all registered their rare victories over the Soweto giants.
Zuke has no intentions of ending their superior record over their illustrious opponents knowing it will be a huge confidence booster heading to other games.
“Even on Saturday, we will do it again,” said Zuke, who was given the captain armband at the beginning of the season after the departure of Nkosinathi Sibisi to Orlando Pirates.
“And we’ll beat them again in February when we play the second leg (on 18 February at Peter Mokaba Stadium).”
Arrows closed off the FIFA World Cup break with a win, defeating struggling provincial rivals Maritzburg United to nestle into the top eight.
“If you beat Chiefs, you have that confidence and we need points now because we are almost entering the second round of the season and that is where things get harder,’’ added Zuke.
“If we can beat Chiefs, come January we have SuperSport United and other games…It will give us that confidence.”
This game was initially supposed to have taken place at Princess Magogo Stadium in KwaMashu but Arrows changed the venue since this is festive period, to allow more fans unlike in KwaMashu.
With the pitch at Moses Mabhida Stadium being huge in size since it is a World Cup venue, this will give Chiefs advantage to play their usual game and not for Arrows.
But Zuke doesn’t think this will be an issue as they also beat Chiefs at FNB Stadium in the first leg last season, and Arrows’ last game at the World Cup venue was also a win.
“I think playing the game there also gives us an advantage because we are a team that plays football on the ground. Sometimes Princess Magogo Stadium gives us issues because it is too small,” said Zuke who recently extended his contract with Arrows until 2025/26 season.
