Kaizer Chiefs DStv Diski Challenge head coach Vela Khumalo has explained the inclusion of three first-team players in their 1-1 draw against Orlando Pirates.
Mduduzi Shabalala, Wandile Duba and Aden McCarthy were named in the starting line-up at the Solomon Mahlangu Stadium which raised questions from sections of supporters.
All three were promoted last season, while Shabalala in particular, has been a regular feature in the matchday squads.
“With regard to Mduduzi, Duba and Aden we wanted to give them game-time,” Khumalo told SuperSport.
“It has been hectic on that side [first team]. We want to get results from the first team and they don’t get that game-time.
“They still belong here; they are young and can still do it. I am happy with how they played; it has been long since they played a competitive game.”
Of the trio Shabalala has made 26 first-team appearances overall, while Wandile Duba has six and McCarthy is yet to make his official debut.
