Kaizer Chiefs are aware that Stanley Nwabili’s present good form for Nigeria at the Africa Cup of Nations endangers their proposed move to sign the goalkeeper.
Chippa United have Nwabili on their books right now. However, Kaizer Chiefs are believed to be keen to take him on at the end of the season.
However, he is catching the eye of European clubs while starring for the Super Eagles.
Khune to be released
Chiefs are preparing to release club legend Itumeleng Khune.
“As it stands, the situation is that the club is looking at releasing two goalkeepers to open up space for (Stanley) Nwabili.
“He is on top of the list of players to be signed at the end of the season and the indications are that two goalkeepers will be released so that they have at least four goalkeepers in the first team then one from their DDC side.
“That’s the situation right now,” a source told Soccer Laduma.
Khune has turned down the prospect of quietly transitioning onto the Kaizer Chiefs coaching staff as he feels his playing days are far from done.
“As for Itu (Khune) it’s about his contract.
“It’s coming to an end in June and as you know Sekhukhune United are interested in him.
“With Bontle (Molefe) he has indicated that he wants game time away from Chiefs and those two could open up space for Stanley (Nwabili),” another source told the publication.
Afcon star making Kaizer Chiefs nervous with hot run
At Afcon, Nwabili has been a surprise first-choice for Nigeria ahead of Manchester United star Andre Onana.
Those performances will be drawing eyes from clubs with serious money and influence.
“The deal is very close to happening but there are clubs in Europe mainly in Belgium interested in him and with his performance at Afcon, things may be difficult for Chiefs but let’s wait until the end of the season to see what will happen,” the source added.
