At the start of 2023 the DStv Premiership reached the halfway point, as all teams played their fifteenth game of the season. But which players featured in all 15 games?
Only two players featured in all of the log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns’ first 15 league games so far this season. Firstly there is Ronwen Williams. The Bafana Bafana captain has been ever-present this season, and in excellent form, and has conceded just five goals in the 15 games. The other player who has appeared in all 15 games is Williams’ former SuperSport United teammate, Teboho Mokoena. However, the midfielder only started 14, coming off the bench in one game. 31 players have game-time for the defending champions so far this campaign.
Only one SuperSport United player of the 27 used featured in every game, and a little surprisingly, that player is striker Bradley Grobler, who started all 15 matches. After an injury-ridden season in the last campaign, Gavin Hunt has been managing the veteran striker well, and he is currently tied for the top spot in the goalscoring race with seven goals. Grobler may have started all the matches, but he hasn’t finished them, being subbed out in all but three of the games. Thatayaone Ditlhokwe had looked set to feature in all the games, but got injured in his 14th start last week against Cape Town City, and missed last weekend’s loss to Golden Arrows.
Three of the 28 players used by Richards Bay started all 15 matches for the DStv Premiership debutants. Goalkeeper Salim Magoola and left-back Tshepo Mabua have played every minute for the Natal Rich Boyz, while Sanele Barns has started all, but been subbed out five times. All three have been stand-out players for the team, but Magoola in particular, with just eight goals conceded, has been key for this season’s surprise package.
Only Keagan Dolly featured in all of Kaizer Chiefs’ first 15 games this season. He started in 13 of those games, getting subbed out four times. He came off the bench in the other two games. Zitha Kwinika, Yusuf Maart and Kgaogelo Sekgota have all featured in 14 games, as Chiefs used 29 players so far this season.
Royal AM used 33 players in the first half of this campaign, but only Shaune Mogaila has been involved in every game. The former TS Galaxy man started 12 games and made three sub appearances in the other fixtures.
While there are strong rumours that he may not be a Golden Arrows player much longer, Pule Mmodi is the only player of the 26 used by Arrows to have started and featured in all 15 games for the Lamontville club this season. Captain Thabani Zuke had been on track as well but was not involved in last weekend’s win over SuperSport United, and so only featured in 14.
Two of the 28 players to play for Cape Town City so far this season featured in all 15 matches for Eric Tinkler’s team. Venezuelan Darwin Gonzalez started 14 games and came off the bench to score the winner against Orlando Pirates last weekend, his fourth of the season. Mduduzi Mdantsane is the only other player involved in all fifteen, though the attacking midfielder only started seven of those games. Injury robbed Khanyisa Mayo of a chance to feature in all 15 after he limped off against SuperSport United midweek ahead of the Pirates fixture.
The only Orlando Pirates player of the 31 used by the club to feature in all 15 games is Nkosinathi Sibisi. The former Golden Arrows defender has started all the league matches for the Bucs this season, playing the full ninety minutes in 12 of the matches. Captain Innocent Maela started in 14 games but was an unused sub against SuperSport United back in August.Â
Captain Roscoe Pietersen is the only Chippa United player who played in all 15 matches for the Gqeberha side. He’s started 13 of those matches and played all ninety minutes nine times. The club has also used 28 players overall.
Of the 23 TS Galaxy players who have featured this season, four played in all 15 games. Both goalkeeper Melusi Buthelezi and captain Given Msimango have been ever-present in all fifteen games. Mlungisi Mbunjana has also started all fifteen but has been subbed once, while Bathusi Aubaas was involved in all the fixtures, but started in 14 games.
Two of the 33 Sekhukhune United players used so far have been involved in the first 15 game this season. Both Daniel Cardoso and Victor Letsoalo joined at the start of the campaign and have started all fifteen games for the club. Cardoso has played every minute, while Letsoalo lasted the full game nine times.

AmaZulu also have just one player of the 25 used who has featured in all the games, and Veli Mothwa is also one of the few in the league who have been ever-present. The 31-year-old Bafana Bafana goalkeeper might not have had as great a season as he did over the last two seasons, but he has still been key for Usuthu, and remains the first name, literally and figuratively, selected on the team-sheet.
Of the 28 players used by Stellenbosch this season, five players were involved in all games making them the most consistently selected of all teams in the first half of the DStv Premiership campaign. Sage Stephens, Deano Van Rooyen & Sibongiseni Mthethwa have all started 15, but were subbed once each. Jayden Adams was also involved in all 15 but started just eight, while Devin Titus was also involved in all the games, but only started seven.
Waseem Isaacs is the only player to feature in all of Swallows’ games this season, who have used 28 players this campaign. The former Stellenbosch striker started in eleven of those fixtures and came off the bench in the other four.
Two Maritzburg United players were involved in all fifteen games this campaign. Bonginkosi Makume has started all fifteen games, however, he was subbed out once. Friday Samu played in all the games, but only started nine times. 29 players have been used this campaign.
Finally, at Marumo Gallants, where 33 players have been used so far, only Katlego Otladisa featured in all fifteen matches for the team currently bottom of the log. The former Platinum Stars, Mamelodi Sundowns, Cape Umoya and Ajax Cape Town winger started all the games, but only played the full 90 minutes six times.
