Western Cape Premier Alan Winde to request for some restrictions to be eased in the province such as alcohol ban and opening of public places.
Western Cape Premier Alan Winde has asked President Cyril Ramaphosa for an urgent meeting to discuss the lifting of the beach and alcohol ban.
The provincial government also requests that the curfew be from 9pm to 11pm. This is after the continuing decline of Covid-19 infections, hospital admissions and fatalities.
Last week Tuesday, Winde wrote to Minister of Health Dr Zweli Mkhize, calling for an easing of restrictions.
The premier said that included in the formal submission they set out “clear evidence in support of the changing of some restrictions”.
Provincial head of Health, Dr Keith Cloete, argued that the steady decline in infections over the past few weeks supported a gradual easing of regulations.
We cannot have restrictions that completely brings economic activity to a halt because the negative impact on the healthcare system is even worse when economic activity is not allowed to happen.
Winde’s proposal is to allow sales of alcohol from at least Monday to Thursday for on-site consumption and wine farm to sell even on weekends as there are visitors also on weekends.
Presidency spokesperson Tyrone Seale said that the they have received the request listed and this matter is under consideration.
President Cyril Ramaphosa will address the nation sometime next month and all the recommendations also changes will be on the table.
