Richards Bay head coach Vusumuzi Vilakazi says he wishes he could take the money back to Stellenbosch over their transfer of star winger Sanele Barns.
The 27-year-old has signed for their DStv Premiership rivals, who look set to finish in second place and enter the CAF inter-club football for the first time in their history.
The signing of Barns represents a huge coup, as he is one of the most creative players in the league and has largely gone under the radar due to fighting the relegation battle for the Natal Richboyz.
“He’s a very professional player and I’m happy with him, I must say with his commitment, usually when players are leaving the club, they start dragging their feet,” Vilakazi said about the player who scored the winning goal against Orlando Pirates.
“But Barns is always fighting for the team and I had a chat with him today, and asked him ‘if we can take the money back to Stellenbosch, will you stay?’ He said ‘please do that’, so that’s the commitment he has for the club.
“He’s very professional and we were missing him in the game against Polokwane but he raised to the occasion [against Pirates] as usual.”
Since joining the club from AmaTuks upon promotion to the top-flight, Barns has scored nine goals with 10 assists in 56 games.
