Regina Nesengani has graduated with a Doctor of Philosophy in languages, Linguistic and literature and she is just 65 years old. She just graduated last week in her 4 years journey to complete her studies, age is just a number.
Regina went to further her studies at University of South Africa in Venda. Now being a doctor she refuses to be called with that title.
During the interview with Sowetan, she said she wanted to inspire her grandchildren and young people in general.
I feel happy to have achieved this but I want to transfer that happiness in inspiring the whole country. I want young people to ask themselves a question. If I achieve a PhD at age 65, what is holding them back? Further, I did my PhD in Venda because I wanted to encourage people to love and be proud of their ethnic languages.
Regina Nesengani did thus because she was also inspired by a 70 years old woman from Eastern Cape who is also a PhD candidate. Hope the nation will follow the drill Regina has just did, this is a challenge in a way.
She got her inspiration from SAFM way back when she realized that age is just a number. At that time Regina was still doing her masters, why not go further with the education? She then decided to push hard as such opportunities can open wide doors for you.
She says now that she has PhD, she will still continue to act while she doing a research in making use of the PhD qualifications.
It is not so long ago when Regina started doing research about Masters, only in 2011. She has been in the industry for quite some time since 1980. Regina gets her inspiration from the lNelson Mandela, where he went 27 years in Robben Island for people to access free education.
