South African referees Abongile Tom, Zakhele Siwela and Akhona Makalima have been invited for the Africa Cup of Nations finals course, CAF confirmed.
All three of them have a big chance to represent Mzansi at the African Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast next year.
The highly-rated trio has been in and out of the country, with Tom in Algeria at the beginning of the year to officiate the African Nations Championship.
Siwela, who was the assistant referee during the 2022 CAF Champions League final between Al Ahly SC and Wydad Athletic Club, has also been in the continental football for some time.
He was the first assistant in last year’s AFCON finals, when his fellow countryman Victor Gomes was in charge when Senegal defeated Egypt in the final on penalties.   Â
Makalima continues to break boundaries in the industry as she recently came back from the FIFA Women’s World Cup, which was hosted in New Zealand and Australia.
She was also part of the referees that were in the CAF African Women’s Cup of Nations in Morocco.
All three of them will be going through a rigorous course that is set to take place between 11 and 16 October in Ivory Coast, where 32 referees and 33 assistant referees along with four VAR referees take part.
The AFCON finals will start next year on 13 January until 11 February.Â
