As the days on the calendar slip away, a palpable sense of anticipation fills the air. For high school seniors, this is the moment they’ve been preparing for throughout their academic journey—the matric exams are just around the corner.
It’s a time of mixed emotions, where anxiety meets excitement, and the future seems both promising and uncertain.
When are the matric exams starting?
The Department of Education released the dates for the 2023 matric exams. The exams are set to start on Monday, 30 October 2023, and end on Wednesday, 6 December 2023.
According to the Western Cape Education Department, their annual matric support booklet has been delivered to over 60 000 candidates in schools.
The booklets include past exams in courses in high enrollment subjects, the exam timetable, study ideas, post-matriculation guidance, and pass requirements, according to the provincial government.
“It also provides candidates and their parents with all the details on when and how the results will be released, the dates for remark and recheck applications, and how to apply for supplementary exams after receiving their results if they would like to improve their marks,” the statement read.
Western Cape Education Department thanks the teachers
The department also stated that Grade 12 teachers have been doing a great job preparing learners for the exams, despite challenges like the minibus taxi strike and load shedding.
“We thank them for their hard work, and wish them all the best as they continue to ensure that learners are well-prepared for post-school education and employment opportunities.”
