Mpumalanga government has strongly condemned the hijacking of one of its officials MEC for Human Settlements Department, Speedy Mashilo was hijacked at gunpoint and in Kwa-Mhlanga and later dumped in Midrand. Police say they have launched a manhunt for suspects who hijacked and robbed the MEC. What was stolen from Speedy Mashilo includes a rifle and R25 000 in cash. The R25 000 was reportedly stashed in a brown envelope. Another amount totaling to R80 000 withdrawn from several bank cards which were also stolen from him.
It is questionable and shocking why the MEC was driving around with such a whooping amount in cash. Mashilo was driving on the R568 road between Ekangala and KwaMhlanga on Thursday when the hijacking happened..
“Wow! He was driving around with a rifle and 25k! Sounds scary. Are all politicians like that?” a Twitter user questioned the motive behind driving with so much money. Who walks around with such a large amount of cash these days? It is dodgy indeed.
Mashilo, who used to be Deputy President, David Mabuza’s front man during his reign as Mpumalanga Premier, is apparently into some corruption. Maybe the 25K was received from some tender dealings. Who knows! Mpumalanga is well-known for its brown envelope dealings anyway.
