Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs have confirmed their starting line-ups for this afternoon’s mouthwatering DStv Premiership encounter at Lucas Moripe Stadium.
Sundowns started their league title defence on a high after beating Sekhukhune United 2-1 away from home in the opening match of the season.
Last campaign’s joint-top goalscorer Peter Shalulile continued where he left off, as he scored the first official goal of the 2023/24 season, while two debutants in Thapelo Maseko and Lucas Ribeiro combined very well in the second goal for Downs.
Chiefs on the other hand struggled against a stubborn Chippa United and their game ended in a goalless draw. They showed glimpses of improvements, especially from new signings in Edson Castillo, Sphiwe Msimango and Thatayaone Ditlhokwe, but struggled to really threaten the Chippa goal.
Sundowns last lost a league match in September 2022, when they went down to SuperSport United but are unbeaten in 25 DStv Premiership games since, winning 19 of them.
Amakhosi, meanwhile, haven’ won a league match since April 2023, when they beat Chippa 1-0 – losing four and drawing one of their matches since.
Looking at the head-to-head record, Masandawana won three of the last four encounters, including their double over Arthur Zwane last season, with one match ending in a draw. The Glamour Boys last beat Sundowns in April 2021.
Here is how they line up:
