Former president of South Africa Jacob Zuma, he put himself under level 5 of lockdown by staying at home and not appearing at the State Capture set for Monday 15th February 2021.
Now that the former president Jacob Zuma did not make an appearance at the State Capture as said to do so, what will happen? Is he going to be arrested or be given an order to appear in the next possible date?
The commission Act in South Africa state that anyone summoned to a public inquiry is required to to attend on the date set out by commissioners. A fine or 6 months to be spent in jail. This is set to be the punishment of failed to do so.
– Message from Jacob Zuma’s legal team
“We inform the commission that our client will not be appearing from 15 – 19 February. The review application for Raymond Zondo to rescue himself from the State Capture Inquiry is yet to be handled. Furthermore, the summons compelling Jacob Zuma to appear is not in line with the forth-order of Constitutional Court verdict, handed down on 28 January.“
Bomb shell from Commissioner Zondo
Deputy Chief Justice Raymond Zondo and evidence leader Advocate Paul Pretorius were exchanging their views in the absence of Zuma’s legal team after they sent a letter on Monday morning saying that he would not appear.
Zondo bombshell:
Allegations against Zuma will
now be treated as evidence.Â
Former president Jacob Zuma says that he did not appear in the State Capture Inquiry due to the fact that Zondo refused to recuse him, he says he is waiting for review to that matter.
“He and his lawyer sent a letter to say that he would not participate in those proceeding at all. The question, can he complain about the order made by the Constitutional Court in circumstances where he was given a full opportunity to oppose that application and place before the court his case and elected not to do so.“
– Zondo is yet to make his decision on the way forward.Â
