It’s a daily battle… At times it’s really difficult to notice when an extrovert like Somizi Mhlongo is going through a rough patch as with them it’s always jokes and laughter.
However, the Idols SA judge couldn’t bottle up his struggles any long and took to Instagram to talk about them. We’re halfway through Mental Health Awareness month and the father of one is getting candid on his social media feed.
The star held nothing back when opening up about being depressed depression and having episodes of hopelessness on Wednesday, 12 October.
The performer said through his Instagram: “At times you wake feeling depressed and defeated or scared or hopeless for no reason and today, this morning, for me was one of those days. My future looked scary… Now, that tells you this condition doesn’t choose your status race or gender. When attacking it’s attacking.
“But the difference is I am dismantling the power it has by talking about it, recognise it don’t glorify… I am talking about it now, after this, I am going to pray about it as it’s trying to steal my joy and it’s trying to make wants me to throw in the towel.”
He concluded the video by asking his followers to pray for him. You can watch the full video below:
We’re so glad that Somizi has learned to manage her mental health, and that he’s willing to share his journey with the world. We appreciate his vulnerability!
