The Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority (PSIRA) has confirmed that two security officers who were filmed beating a man accused of stealing peanut butter have been told not to come to work.
The incident occurred on September 9, 2022, in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal, according to PSIRA, and the alleged shoplifter has been identified as Sandile Ngcobo.

PSIRA stated that the company that employed the officers has asked them not to report to work until the investigation is completed.
PSIRA also strongly condemned what it termed reckless violence inflicted on the alleged shoplifter in a certain retail store.

“These brutal acts are condemned with the strongest contempt they deserve. As the regulating body for the private security industry we have launched an investigation and are watchfully looking into this act, the security officers involved as well as the company they work for for further investigation.”
