In a successful operation, the South African Police Service (SAPS) intercepted a white Toyota Prado that had been hijacked in Gauteng last week.
The vehicle was being driven by a 39-year-old man who was subsequently arrested. The arrest took place in Limpopo, as the suspect was preparing to smuggle the SUV into Zimbabwe through the Beitbridge border post.

The operation, led by the SAPS Specialized Anti-Smuggling Unit, was intelligence-driven and resulted in the apprehension of the suspect linked to a cross-border smuggling ring.
According to Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, the spokesperson for the Limpopo Provincial Police, information was received about the suspect driving the hijacked Toyota Prado from Randfontein, Gauteng, towards Polokwane.
The interception occurred along the N1 South road, near the Shell garage in the Westenburg policing area. Preliminary investigations revealed that the vehicle had been hijacked on March 12 and was intended to be smuggled into Zimbabwe through the Beitbridge border post.
It was also discovered that the suspect had previously been caught attempting to smuggle a stolen motor vehicle into Mozambique through the Lebombo border post.
The arrested man is currently in custody and is expected to appear before the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
He will face charges of possession of a suspected stolen motor vehicle and possession of fraudulent documents. The police are conducting further investigations, and additional arrests have not been ruled out.
