On Monday, a 58-year-old man is scheduled to appear in Thohoyandou Magistrate’s Court on charges of possessing dagga, unlicensed firearms, and ammunition.
The man was taken into custody on Thursday at his home in the village of Ngwenani Ya Mapholi.

“The suspect was apprehended by the Thohoyandou Police and the Tactical and Response Team (TRT) Unit in the Vhembe District after he was found in possession of three unlicensed firearms.
“He also had two rifles with ammunition including eight bags of dagga at Ngwenani Ya Mapholi village,” Limpopo provincial police spokesperson, Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, said in a statement.
The man was arrested after the police were tipped off that he was in possession of firearms and ammunition at his home.

When the house was located and searched, the police discovered eight bags of dagga with an estimated street value of R80,000 along with an R1 rifle with eight live rounds of ammunition, an R4 rifle with two magazines and 78 live rounds of ammunition,.
They also discovered three firearms with one magazine and three live rounds, a detonator with a red cable, a digimark battery in black, a connection DC wire, and eight bags of dagga.
“The firearms will be subjected to ballistic testing to determine any linkages to other crimes.
“The suspect will appear before the Thohoyandou Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 14 November 2022, facing charges of possession of dagga, unlicensed firearms and ammunition,” he said.
