Former Bafana Bafana defender Morgan Gould has landed a post at Sekhukhune United as the first team coach.
Gould has been promoted by Sekhukhune from the DStv Diski Challenge team to be second assistant to coach Brandon Truter and first assistant Mcdonald Makhubedu.
“I have now been tasked to become a second assistant which is a big jump,” said Gould.
“But I’m very, very excited and DDC has taught me something that you need to be patient, you need to be understanding, you need to bring everybody in together.”
Gould, 39, joined Sekhukhune at the beginning of 2020/21 season when the club was campaigning in the Motsepe Foundation Championship, but they were promoted at the end of the season via the boardroom.
With the club now in the PSL top flight, Sekhukhune had to restructure, with Gould added in the club’s young structures before this season given the post of DDC coach.
“So that position (of DDC) taught me how to work with other people and try to get the best of other people,” Gould said.
“My objective is just to grow and also introduce new players coming from the junior ranks and those coming from different areas because football has evolved – there is a lot of sport science involved.
“But for me to help the coach (Truter) reach his mandate and make the Sekhukhune nation very proud – as a former player to be part of their technical staff.”
Gould had a successful career, winning the Coca-Cola Cup with Jomo Cosmos in the 2002/03 season.
He then joined SuperSport United in the 2008/09 season, winning two league titles and Nedbank Cu before leaving to join Kaizer Chiefs at the beginning of the 2012/13 season.

In his first season with Chiefs, Gould added another league and the Ke Yona Cup. Another league title arrived in 2014/15 season with Amakhosi and the MTN8 trophy to clinch the double.
He went back to SuperSport in the 2016/17 season, adding another MTN8 and the Nedbank Cup. He left SuperSport for the second time to spend one season with Stellenbosch FC in the 2019/20 season, but the club did not keep him in the following season to then join Sekhukhune.
Gould was capped 31 times for Bafana Bafana, scoring one goal. He was part of the nation’s squad in the 2009 FIFA Confederation Cup, World Cup a year later in Mzansi. He also formed part of the Africa Cup of Nations squad in 2013 and 2017.
