The Sports, Arts and Culture Department has been found to have illegally spent public money to the tune of over R100 million to record an album for former president Jacob Zuma.
That is according to the latest findings by the Public Protector.
Busisiwe Mkhwebane says the funds were allocated during the 2018/2019 financial year by Minister Nathi Mthethwa.
She says the money was used to record an album with Ladysmith Black Mambazo and teach traditional Zulu dance.
“The failure of the department to ensure the directive to utilise funding…from monies appropriated by Parliament was reduced to writing, was not in accordance to the principals referred to the above.
“The department’s directives must be in writing and filed by the DG with the national treasury and the AGSA.”
