Royal AM president Shauwn Mkhize breathed a sigh of relief after her club secured their Premier Soccer League status on the last day of the season.
Thwihli Thwahla had a mixed season after they were banned from signing players by FIFA following an outstanding payment to Samir Nurkovic, while another case was opened over financial disagreements with Ricardo Nascimento.
The KwaZulu-Natal-based side, though not being able to sign players, managed to stay up after securing a 2-1 win over Moroka Swallows to avoid the relegation/promotion playoffs.
Royal AM finished the season in 13th place with 33 points after 30 games and Mkhize expressed a big sigh of relief.
“Sporting a smile and breathing in a deep sigh of relief as we drew to an end this challenging soccer season – a weight lifted off our shoulders,” MaMkhize wrote on social media.
“Now I can savior a little joys without the looming threat of relegation! Echoing the famous words of coach Thobejane ‘football can kill you a real death’.”
While Royal AM survived the chop, fellow KZN side Richards Bay will meet AmaTuks and Baroka in the playoffs.
