Julius Malema, the leader of the EFF, has demanded that copies of Jacques Pauw’s most recent book, Our Poisoned Land, be taken off the shelves.
The South African reports that Malema’s legal team has attempted tosto ban sales of the new book by sending a lawyer’s letter to Pauw and NB Publishers.

Details about Malema’s relationship with tobacco trader Adriano Mazzotti are among the damning accusations made against the EEF leader in the book.
Malema’s legal team demanded a full apology and the retraction of the book in a letter to the publishers, accusing them of disseminating “untrue and defamatory” material.
“We demand the immediate withdrawal of ‘Our Poisoned Land’. Both Mr Jacques Pauw and NB Publishers must unconditionally apologise to Julius Malema, Floyd Shivambu, Mbuyiseni Ndlozi and the EFF as a whole, for their untrue and defamatory allegations,” the letter further reads.
Pauw, who calls the book “the book Julius Malema does not want you to see,” said the EFF had “used threats” to try to prevent the publication of his book.
NB Publishers has acknowledged receiving an urgent letter of demand from lawyers representing Julius Malema, Floyd Shivambu, and Mbuyiseni Ndlozi on Monday requesting that they withdraw the book.
“We stand by our author and the book and the information in the book was properly sourced, and lawfully published and demands for removal and apologies have been rejected,” said the publisher.
In 2017, Pauw published The President’s Keepers, which claimed that former president Jacob Zuma had not submitted tax returns to Sars for the first four years of his administration and that he had also received a salary of R1 million per month for a number of months in 2009 without disclosing this to tax authorities.
The book also asserted that Zuma’s tax liabilities were being avoided by SARS commissioner Tom Moyane due to the fringe benefits he had acquired from the renovation of his private Nkandla homestead with public funds.
