Sibusiso Mabiliso had hope that Kaizer Chiefs would be his stepping stone to Europe, but now that he has re-joined AmaZulu, he has not given up hope of an overseas move.
Mabiliso spent a season at Chiefs after joining them from Usuthu ahead of the 2021/2022 DStv Premiership season, but struggled for regular game time.
Last month he parted ways with the club on a free transfer, and was re-signed by his former team last week.
In an interview with Velile Mnyandu in this week’s iDiski Times newspaper, Mabiliso said he had hoped to play more at Chiefs and use the opportunity to get a chance to move abroad.
“I don’t think [I received a fair chance] because I only made one start and I think I played very well in that game too,” Mabiliso told iDiski Times.
“In other games I was introduced as a sub and it’s not easy for a defender to come on as a sub and maintain the level of the game.
“So, I wouldn’t say I was given a fair chance because I only started one game, and I think I played perfect.”

Mabiliso also added that he feels disappointed with exit, because he was hoping the Amakhosi could open the door for an overseas move for him.
“To be honest I feel disappointed because I went to that team with the hopes of playing, to use the opportunity as a stepping stone from where I was coming from,” he added.
“I was playing regularly at AmaZulu, so I was hoping that at Chiefs that would have been my stepping stone to get a chance to go to Europe, but unfortunately things didn’t go the way I expected them to go. But it’s part of football, we move on.
“I was just happy that after signing I will be able to get another team so that I can get some game time, because that’s what I really wanted,” he continued.
“I want my career to go well and to be able to get an opportunity to go overseas.”
In this edition of iDiski Times, we talk to Mabiliso who talks about his time at Chiefs and how he feels he didn’t really get the chance to show what he was capable of. We also hear from African football legend Yaya Toure, who discusses the significance of Benni McCarthy’s appointment at Manchester United as well as his ambitions to help grow the game.
