Kaizer Chiefs have moved closer to naming the new coach for next season to replace Molefi Ntseki and his interim successor Cavin Johnson. iDiski Times have reported Alexandre Santos is the leading favourite.
KAIZER CHIEFS TO APPOINT ALEXANDRE SANTOS AS THE NEXT HEAD COACH?
According to the leading local outlet, Santos, who is set to leave Angolan giants Petro de Luanda soon, has emerged as the leading candidate to join Kaizer Chiefs.
“Outgoing Petro de Luanda head coach Alexandre Santos has emerged as a frontrunner for the vacant Kaizer Chiefs job,” the outlet reported.
More details to follow.
WHO IS ALEXANDRE SANTOS?
Santos, was born in Portugal 47 years ago. Long before winning two league titles with Petro de Luanda in the past two seasons (soon to win a third before June), Santos cut his teeth in Europe, Asia and North Africa.
The Kaizer Chiefs-linked tactician has been an assistant club at big clubs such as SC Braga, FC Porto (both Portugal) and Al Ahly of Egypt.
NEIL TOVEY NOT HAPPY WITH AMAKHOSI MANAGEMENT
Meanwhile, Kaizer Chiefs legend Neil Tovey has sent a big message to his former club. The former Bafana Bafana captain has said that the club’s problems run deeper than the technical team and players. Tovey feels that the club’s management is not competent.
Speaking to the media after watching another poor season for Amakhosi, Tovey simply believes Kaizer Chiefs do not have the right people in management.
“You cannot have other clubs dominating Chiefs like they are now; it is ridiculous,” Tovey said via the Citizen.
As far as the solutions, Tovey said it will not happen cheaply and not with the current management team in charge.
“It will not be like instant coffee, but of course the situation can be turned around with the right players in the right positions on the field, and the right people in management. And I am not for one second saying Chiefs don’t have the right people in management,” Tovey added.
“What I am saying is you must have people who will assist in areas where [Kaizer] Chiefs are lacking. Areas like confidence, motivation and the mental fortitude needed to play for this enormous club,” Tovey concluded.
