Kaizer Chiefs caretaker coach Cavin Johnson says nothing has changed when it comes to Itumeleng Khune and he remains suspended until the club will make an announcement.
Khune was suspended by Chiefs after he was alleged to have arrived at training under the influence of alcohol towards the end last year.
The Soweto Giants decided that the second most-capped Bafana Bafana player in history should not be part of the side until further notice.
He did, though, feature in the PSL All Star XI in the Carling Black Label Cup, winning the Man of the Match award, and there were some whispers that he has returned to training.
However, Khune was still nowhere to be seen as Chiefs were held into a goalless draw by Royal AM at Harry Gwala Stadium on Sunday night, as the DStv Premiership resumed this weekend post the Africa Cup of Nations that was held in Ivory Coast.
Bruce Bvuma was the man guarding the poles, with Brand Petersen on the bench, with Johnson confirming Khune’s suspension is still ongoing.
“He’s still in the same situation that you guys find in the media and the club will do something once that is done,” Johnson said in the post-match at Harry Gwala Stadium.
Khune is in a sticky situation as his contract will expire at the end of the season and the club communicated with the player that this season will be his last before branching into marketing and ambassadorial work at to the club.
It remains to be seen whether that deal agreement is also in jeopardy, with Khune saying he still wants to play while Chiefs were seemingly thinking otherwise.
Khune is the currently the longest-serving member of the club, having been promoted in the 2004/05 season by the late Ted Dumitru.
Since then, he has won three league titles along with an array of domestic and individual trophies.
