In a remarkable achievement, Instagram Threads, the newly launched app, has rapidly amassed over 100 million users within a few days of its debut.
Recent data indicates that Threads has already secured Twitter’s global weekly active user base and is a staggering 86 times ahead of Truth Social, Twitter’s biggest rival in the United States, which currently boasts one million weekly active users.

These insights, provided by app intelligence firm data.ai, come after an initial analysis revealed a slight decline in early usage for Threads.
Sensor Tower, another app intelligence company, reported a decrease of approximately 20% in Threads’ daily active users on Tuesday and Wednesday, with a 50% drop in time spent, reducing from 20 minutes to 10 minutes, as stated by CNBC.
However, data.ai highlights to SurgeZirc SA that Threads’ momentum is far from diminishing. The app has already garnered over 150 million downloads.
It is estimated to be 5.5 times faster than the record previously held by Niantic’s Pokémon GO, which made a significant impact upon its release in July 2016.
During its initial partial week of availability, the Twitter competitor attracted an audience of approximately 93 million active users worldwide, even before officially announcing its milestone of 100 million signups on July 10.
Further analysis revealed that India, rather than the United States, leads in terms of the number of app downloads, accounting for 33% of global installations.
Brazil follows closely behind with 22%, while the United States represents 16%. Mexico and Japan trail behind with 8% and 5% respectively.
Threads is still not accessible in the EU due to regulatory obstacles relating to privacy concerns and data collection practices. Meta has even taken measures to prevent EU users from bypassing the app’s block via VPNs.

A few days ago, Threads released a significant update since its launch, offering support for iOS 17, which is now available as a public beta, along with several minor improvements.
Planned future enhancements for the app include a following feed, an edit button, multi-account support, and integration with ActivityPub—the protocol powering Mastodon, a popular decentralized alternative to Twitter.
