Magesi head coach Jacky Ledwaba believes this year’s delay of the start to the Motsepe Foundation Championship season was a blessing for the club as it helped them prepare better.
Magesi, together with La Masia, are the newcomers in the current first division league following their promotion from the ABC Motsepe League.
The Limpopo-based club began their season with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Limpopo rivals Venda Football Academy (VFA) on Sunday.
“We have done enough to prepare. It helped that the league was postponed so that we started late. It helped us but we are still a work in progress. We will go all the way because our primary objective is to make sure that the team remains in the league,” FARPost.
“There are still other things that we must work on so that the boys can be on top of their game.”
The club has also signed some experienced players on top of some of the players who remain from their ABC Motsepe League team. The likes of Elvis Chipezeze, Kagiso Selemela, Vuyusile Wana, Njabulo Buthelezi and Tshepo Makgoga who is now their team captain.
“Their experience will add value to the team because they have been there, done that and they are tested players. Especially (Vuyisile) Wana who will lead from the front, (Elvis) Chipezeze will lead from the back, (and Njabulo) Buthelezi also will guide these young boys.
“We have a good blend of young and experienced and that’s a plus for us. We have nice exciting youngsters who can go far,” said the 2003/04 PSL top goalscorer while at Thanda Zulu Royals with 14 goals.
“It’s good for the team and the morale of the players. What a hard-fought win. Credit to the boys, they executed the plan exactly the way we spoke about it,” Ledwaba said on the win against VFA.
