A 64-year-old woman and her staff were allegedly tied up by four men before ransacking her house during an armed robbery in Verulam, in the KZN North Coast.
According to Reaction Unit South Africa (Rusa) spokesperson, Prem Balram, their security officers were currently searching for the four men who robbed the pensioner’s house on Wednesday morning.
Balram said they were contacted by the woman’s neighbour for assistance.
“On arrival, the 64-year-old informed officers that she was conducting chores in the yard with five of her employees. Her driveway gate was slightly opened when the robbers entered the property,” he said.
Balram added that the pensioner and her employees were forced into the house where their hands and legs were tied with pieces of material.
Balram said one suspect, who was armed with a firearm, demanded to know the location of the valuables while his accomplices ransacked the house.
“The suspects made off with three televisions, seven cellphones, jewellery and a safe containing an undisclosed amount of cash.
“The goods were loaded into the victim’s blue Mercedes-Benz with registration NJ 435 which sped off followed by the suspects’ blue Toyota Tazz (registration unknown),” Balram said.
He added that Rusa appealing to anyone with information regarding the stolen items to contact 086 1234 333 or the nearest police station.
