FORMER minister of finance Tito Mboweni has decided to put his weight behind Robert Marawa.
Mboweni, who also served as governor of the South African Reserve Bank, went as far as suggesting a petition in order to bring back Marawa to the SABC.
Without mincing his words, he wrote: “Radio 2000 is one of the good SABC radio stations. Great line up. Always listening on my home drive to Makgobaskloof.
But poor on commercial advertising income. What happened to the great Robert Marawa sports show? I missed something. Let him return! I demand. Petition time.”
His followers couldn’t agree more.
Joseph Shadung shared the same sentiments and wrote: “I can’t believe I agree with my grandfather Tito Mboweni for the first time in my life. Marawa must come back to SABC indeed.”
Kgapu said: “Yes, now you are talking former minister. Please use your connections up there to demand his return. We are starving, now only Vuma radio listeners in Katlehong are benefitting alone. Marawa always said that there is someone in government who does not want him.”
But Senzelwa Mzila blamed Mboweni for the SABC’s financial crisis.
He wrote: “SABC came with a begging bowl to Treasury many times seeking a bailout so that it does not have to cut its prime-time content. This request was denied and hence the culling of so many quality presenters. I just forgot the name of the gentleman who was minister for finance then.”
Tito joins masses of football fans, artists, politicians, former football stars who are calling for Marawa’s return.
Former soccer star Fees Moloi had said: “Marawa’s show was educational and entertaining but now that he’s gone, the SABC has got nothing to offer to listeners. I have nothing against those who replaced him but my issue is the lack of content. I strongly feel his dismissal was unfair. The SABC had a personal vendetta against him. For this reason I shall fight for the reinstatement of Marawa.”
