Expected 3rd wave after Easter. What could this mean?
The beginning of the 3rd wave has started to show itself in South Africa.
It’s been a year now the world under Covid-19 pandemic and lockdowns. South Africa saw itself in an unusual way of living when President Cyril Ramaphosa addressed the nation March 2020 telling people that the economy will be closed so is how people will live.
Along the year in 2020 South Africa was in up and down levels of lockdown with regard to the Covid-19 cases recorded.for certain period of time. The very same year South Africa recorded over 1 million cases which lead to Second Wave and U-turn of high level.
Covid-19 cases
Test conducted: 9,426,589
Positive case: 1,538,451
Recoveries: 1,463,953
Deaths: 52,196
Vaccine administered: 182,983
Level 3 after or before Easter?
Professor of Vaccinology from Wits University, he says that there’s no need to go back to level 3 of lockdown but some restrictions will have to be tighten for the upcoming public holiday, Easter weekend.
This can be seen as a return as in December 2020 the country took a sharp turn to level 3 after it was declared to be on Second wave just days before 31st December 2020.
“I don’t think South Africa needa a level 3 lockdown in it’s entirely, but rules would need to be more targeted. When facing a resurgence, what we must concentrate on is stopping people from getting hospitalized and killed. We need to target high risk individuals, but we can’t do that with vaccine because our vaccination programme is all over the show.“ said Wits professor Shabir Madhi.

The return of high levels of Covid-19 lockdown may not be seen soon but it can be expected sometime in April 2021. At that time South Africa celebrated the 1 year Covid-19 anniversary in full close door.
For now it is not clear when President Cyril Ramaphosa will address the nation in response to the Covid-19 pandemic. Meeting are been held but no confirmation of the address date nor what can happen with this pandemic.
