A new book about Tesla founder Elon Musk has not only made stunning revelations about the 52-year-old tech titan, but also about his father, Errol Musk.
The book Elon Musk by Walter Isaacson was released on Tuesday, 12 September 2023, and is already a bestseller. Musk’s childhood in South Africa together with his parents and two siblings is undoubtedly a subject many people are particularly interested in.
‘BLACKS WILL GO BACK TO THE TREES’
While it’s no secret that Errol Musk didn’t like the direction South Africa was going, prompting his decision to eventually leave, it is what he said about black leaders that will likely spark outrage.
In one chapter focusing on Elon Musk’s strained relationship with his dad, the 71-year-old is quoted making racist remarks about black South African leaders in 2022.
“With no Whites here, the Blacks will go back to the trees,” he said.
ELON MUSK’S RELATIONSHIP WITH HIS DAD
The book cites several people, including the Musk siblings, who open up about the emotional trauma Errol inflicted on his eldest son. Being raised by his father, who is described as having been physically and emotionally abusive, Elon grew to become “a tough yet vulnerable man-child with an exceedingly high tolerance for risk, a craving for drama, an epic sense of mission and a maniacal intensity that was callous and at times destructive.”
At some point, the two were estranged, but they reconciled in 2016.
“There are certain people who occupy a demon’s corner of Musk’s head space. They trigger him, turn him dark, and rouse a cold anger. His father is number one,” Isaacson wrote.
