South African veteran TV presenter and The Queen actor Nimrod Nkosi has been catching smoke on social media after he opened up about his side hustle – selling products that keep Mzansi women’s punanis sound and in good order – out of his boot.
The punani-related product Nimrod sells is sanitary pads – and locals are not impressed. After reading about the business venture, many social media users have slammed the former Jam Alley presenter for selling pads instead of donating them to women and young girls who simply cannot afford the much-needed product.
Nimrod earlier opened up about how he turned to the side hustle after COVID-19 hit South Africa and had a devastating impact on the livelihoods of millions of people.
The ex-Jam Alley host shared that the COVID-19 pandemic taught him that he should not depend on one income stream. He said celebrities should have many income streams so they will not struggle when facing tough times. Nimrod Nkosi was quoted saying:
Speaking to The Star, Nimrod revealed that he resorted to selling intimate feminine products after COVID-19 resulted in many people taking pay cuts and having to find alternative forms of income.
“Covid caught us off guard and it showed us that we should always have access to planning and saving. Some of my colleagues in the industry are in property and we are now realising that we can bring more income into our streams,” Nimrod told the publication.
“I developed a new love for business after the Covid-19 pandemic hit the world and Mzansi. I no longer rely on just one income since the Covid-19 lockdown left many people in the entertainment industry broke, he added.
Nkosi said he also does presentations for women’s groups where he sells these pads. He said for him to sell to women he had to understand the product and how the female body functions.
“For me it’s been a lesson to understand how the female body works as a man and to be able to relate with women better in better understanding their anatomy. For me I take it as a business and this is one of my products,” Nkosi said.
Besides having a career in the entertainment world, Nimrod Nkosi, who is a presenter for the Moja Love show “AmaBishop”, is a Longrich Network Marketing distributor, and he decided to add another side hustle to earn extra cash. He is now selling sanitary pads from the boot of his car.
Nimrod Nkosi’s sanitary pads side hustle business gets Mzansi talking
However, his new side hustle left many debating that he should have donated the pads to the less privileged school girls and looked for a formal business. Mzansi suggests he should have chosen a better side hustle than selling sanitary pads.
Social media users are not impressed with Nimrod’s new side hustle, and they can’t even hide it. His fans were even comparing him to Skeem Saam actor Clement Maosa, donating sanitary pads for high school girls in Limpopo. Here are a few comments on Twitter:
@MrSoWhat31 commented: “He chose the wrong things to sell, he mustn’t be selfish. Sanitary pads must be free.”
@mheidtman said: “Should donate them, not sell them!”
@ngwanawamotho said: “Bathong, his a Longrich distributor, what he’s doing there is called network marketing and many can still join the product based company/companies and sell to make extra income. Before you make reports like this, do your research.”
@MaxwellKamte added: “The vulnerable kids need them at schools, he should donate instead!”
Nimrod’s fans were worried about the reports that he is now selling pads, but they were also happy that he is not begging for money; instead, he is working for it.
While Nimrod maintains that he is serious about his business and has even taken some time to study the female anatomy and its needs, social media users have criticised him for choosing to literally make money out of products meant for women’s punanis.
According to multiple tweets, the presenter should rather be donating it to communities in need.
Meryl Kriel wrote: “Should donate them, not sell them!”
Mr Sowhat wrote: “He chose the wrong things to sell, he mustn’t be selfish. Sanitary pads must be free.”
Others have backed his decision and commended him for spotting a gap in the market and efficiently filling it.
