DR Congo head coach Sébastien Desabre was left impressed by the progress of Bafana Bafana under head coach Hugo Broos and opened the door for Manchester United defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations.
South Africa secured a morale-boosting 1-0 win over his side days after they secured their ticket to Ivory Coast via the 2-0 win over Sudan in Kinshasa.
It marked their ninth game unbeaten under Broos, with the last defeat being the 2-1 loss against Morocco in Rabat 15 months ago.
“Bafana Bafana… it’s not the first team, but many of these players played against Morocco, and we know before the game it was a difficult game for us because it’s the first time our players played together,” he said.
“We had some changes… but I like the organisation of South Africa, the team tried to build from the back with the goalkeeper, but unfortunately the pitch wasn’t at the level to try and play…
“So it was a fight and a good thing to prepare the teams for the next games in October and the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in November.
“Bafana play good football, good results over the last few months, I think it’s a dangerous team, they have the spirit to win games, they work, not speaking much with good organisation. And okay, I know your coach, he’s a [very] good coach.”
The former Uganda and Pyramids FC boss went on to state the likes of Wan-Bissaka and Axel Tuanzebe who’ve been flirting with switching their allegiance to the Leopards are welcome to join his squad, if they are in it for the right reasons.
Having arrived after two straight defeats in AFCON qualification, the Frenchman says getting 10 points from their final four games was due to organisation, heart and discipline, which he wants to continue moving forward.
“The team is open for all players but at one condition, to want to come with their heart in the national team,” he explained over the dual-national players.
“But when it’s the moment for these guys, they can come, very good players but we’ll not run after them. We have lots of players who worked hard to qualify [for AFCON], so if Aaron or other players want to come, they can call me, no problem.”
