The Unemployment Insurance Fund will pay all the outstanding Temporary Employment Relief Scheme known as TERS. Millions of funds will be paid to all qualifying workers in South Africa including authorized foreign employees.
This week the UIF says it has started processing payments that are outstanding from a period starting in April 202 to September 2020, this are good news to fellow South Africans.
Many peope they thought the government has forgotten about them hence it was working on it.
For September and October period, the UIF says it has already begun to process funds over R1 billion to over 270 000 South African workers including foreignners that are been validated by SARS.
The UIF’s acting commissioner, Marsha Broklnkhorst said the state agency is been processing outstanding payment for months now. In September Thabo Maruping was suspended also with the entire management due to allegations of fraud and mismanagement of Covid-19 relief funds.
“Officials at senior management and those processing and paying claims will not be going on leave except for the mandatory shutdown period from 24 December 2020 to 1 January 2021, which is used for system maintenance”. Says Bronkhorst.
Meanwhile, the UIF has advised companies who made Covid-19 TERS claims via CSV file for April 2020 to 15 September 2020 period, and where “no employees” appears on the online portal, to assume that their CSV file was incorrectly formatted.
Employers were called to re-submit their claims with a complete Excel template document for the period in question and called for only one email attachment per email.
From there the UIF will covert the file to CSV file format, do necessary checks and audit of the application, before processing the application from 14 December 2020.
Since the past months, UIF has paid R55.6 billion in 12.9 million payments to 1.1 million applications from employers since March. 490 000 foreign employees are paid over R2 billion.
“The decision to postpone annual leave for some of our officials was not taken lightly, but is been implemented to ensure that we continue to process and pay claims to our beneficiaries to enable them to meet their financial obligations and support their families during festive season. ” said Bronkhorst.
This is where it comes that the process of repaying funds are on speed dail in order for employees to have nice time with their families knowing that they are financially covered.
