Western Cape Premier Alan Winde has cautioned residents against unnecessary travels during the ongoing heavy rains battering the province.
PREMIERS WARNING
The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued level 9 warning on Sunday, due to the impact of the inclement weather is expected to be severe.
For those at home, there is relief to the ongoing inclement weather as Eskom has announced it has suspended load shedding in Western and Eastern Cape due to storm damage.
“I know the flood and ongoing rain is devastating our province. This is the second time we are having rain like we’re having. Please make sure that you stay safe. No unnecessary travel along our routes”, says Winde
“Rather not take chances. Make sure that you test waters, don’t just move or drive into water if you see that the area is flooded”, the Premier added.
FLOODED AREAS
Severe flooding in homes have been reported in several areas around Cape Town which include, Durbanville, Bo-Kaap, Schaapkraal, Bellville South, Belhar, Sandvlei Macassar, Strand, Gordon’s Bay, and Knorhoek.
ROAD CLOSURES
According to TrafficSA, the following roads have been closed:
N2 Sir Lowrys Pass – CLOSED
R44 Clarence Drive – CLOSED
Villiersdorp / Franschhoek routes – CLOSED
