Johannesburg – Dr Zweli Mkhize has officially declared that South Africa is on second wave of Covid-19. This decision is based on 8 000 cases records in the last 10 days.
The government sees the need for people to start taking this matter seriously again as they seem to have forgotten. Covid-19 is still with us and all people doesn’t know when it will leave us.
President Cyril Ramaphosa addressed the nation after Dr Zweli Mkhize said the country is on second wave. Said news for fellow South Africans as festive season is not going to be the same.
The president spoke to the nation on Tuesday as he imposed stricter regulations for the whole South Africa. All regulations been in place took immediate effect on Tuesday mid night.
All alcohol consumption in recreational spaces including parks and beaches, will be strictly prohibited during the festive season. This means events that usually takes place on 16 December every year will not take place as they are a fast spreading events.
All beaches in KwaZulu-Natal closes on the following dates.
16, 25-26 plus 31 December 2020
1,2 even by 3rd of January 2021.
All beaches in the Eastern Cape and the Garden Route District are closes from 16 December 2020 to 3rd January 2021.
Now that the country is on second wave, all liquor retails shops across the country are permitted only to sell alcohol from 10am to 6pm Monday to Thursday.
All these new regulations based on second wave, are to protect the lives of fellow South Africans. He said festive season is posing a threat to both health and the well being of the nation.
Regulations will be reviews in January 2021, any changes will be based on the results of Covid-19 infections and fatalities.
People need to adhere to health protocols and if not, the NCCC ministers will immediately enforce stricter regulations to save the lives of the nation.
We need to once again adhere to the basic health protocol. We have been here before and we can do it again. If we do not do things differently this festive season, we will greed the new year with sorrow with many of our relatives, friends and co-workers infected. Those are the words from the president.
The new regulation imposed is that the curfew will now be from 11pm to 4am, tarvens will have to close by 10pm to allow people to go home.
New regulations around gatherings are that only 100 people allowed for indoors, only 250 for outdoors gatherings, with the total number not permitted to be more that 50% of the capacity given for the venue.
By early 2021, 10% of South African population will receive the first vaccine. South Africa is a part of a facility by the name COVAX, they share resources and vaccine development risk to ensure equitable access to vaccine when they become available.
