Golden Arrows coach Vusumuzi Vilakazi has attributed his team’s 2-0 loss to Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday in a DStv Premiership encounter to a lapse in concentration.
In a post-match interview, Vusumuzi Vilakazi felt the early goals Abafana Besithende conceded could have been avoided if the players had concentrated better.
“I strongly feel that we lost the game in the first 15 minutes of the match,” he told SuperSport TV after the match in Durban.
WHY LOSS OF CONCENTRATION IS AN ISSUE FOR ARROWS
“It is a thing we always stress as coaches to keep focus and concentration.”
Vusumuzi Vilakazi said his side dominated larger aspects of the game, especially in the second-half.
He, however, noted that it was always difficult to stage a comeback as the Chiefs had the wind in their sails courtesy of the early goals.
“We created a few chances… we hit the pole once or twice.,” Vusumuzi Vilakazi said.
“We still need to work on ensuring that we fully focus on the game and we don’t concede goals so early.”
“This was not the best Chiefs [performance]. They only relied on individual brilliance,” he added.
The Soweto giants won the game courtesy of goals from the league’s leading scorer Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana and defender Edmilson Dove.
The Burundian Bimenyimana reacted the fastest to shoot on the turn past a defender and find his target.
It is his seventh league goals that takes him one goal ahead of Mamelodi Sundowns’ Peter Shalulile and Bradley Grobler of SuperSport United.
CHIEFS COACH ARTHUR ZWANE ADMITS ARROWS’ CHALLENGE
In a post-match interview with SuperSport TV, Chiefs Arthur Zwane coach Arthur Zwane admitted that Arrows gave them a good run for their money.
Zwane said his game-plan was to ensure that the Kwa-Zulu Natal outfit does not get enough spaces.
“Great teams like Arrows have players who are comfortable on the ball,” he said.
“If you give them time and space, they can hurt you so we wanted to put them under pressure.”
The Glamour Boys are in fourth place, some seven points behind leaders and holders Sundowns.
The defending champions beat Orlando Pirates 2-0 on Friday to remain top.
Arrows lie 10th on the log table with 16 points from 14 games.
