VANDERBIJLPARK. – The Border Boys parade is a growing movement within the Memorable Order of Tin Hats (M.O.T.H) to honour fallen comrades.
These fallen servicemen and women participated in various activities along our country’s borders and in internal counterinsurgency operations in South West Africa, as it was then known. This period stretches from the late 1960s to 1994.
The Border Boys parade gathered on Sunday, May 26, at the Sylviavale Heritage Museum to remember and reflect on those who paid the ultimate sacrifice, as well as their fellow comrades who served during these times. They observe the three fun damental elements of their Order: sound memory, true comradeship, and mutual help.
This year, there was no keynote address as Brigadier General Toon Slabbert was unexpectedly hospitalised. According to Major Jan Bergh, this is a very special event. “Most of the guys only see each other once a year. So it is very special,” he said.
