A group of ANC eThekwini councillors are going to Nkandla to present former president Jacob Zuma with a bull on Thursday.
Ntando Khuzwayo, eThekwini Ward 28 councillor, said the visit was just to check up on the wellbeing of Zuma.
“We just want to see him and show him our love and appreciation. When he got out of prison, we were not able to see him because we were still busy with election campaigns,” he said.
Khuzwayo said about 40 councillors from eThekwini and Umvoti contributed to Zuma’s gift.
“Ordinary ANC members and supporters will also be joining us, so it is hard to tell how many people will show up,” he said.
Khuzwayo said the visit was not to thank Zuma for delivering ANC the eThekwini mayoral position.
There were media reports that it was Zuma’s intervention that convinced Abantu Batho Congress leader Philani Mavundla to support ANC mayoral candidate, Mxolisi Kaunda.
Khuzwayo, a well-known staunch ally of Zandile Gumede MPL, said the former eThekwini mayor will not be part of the visit.
The visit comes as the ANC eThekwini Region is gearing up to host it’s elective leadership conference.
Gumede and the recently elected eThekwini Municipality speaker, Thabani Nyawose, are said to be the front runners for the chairperson position.
