Thabo Bester, the convicted serial rapist and murderer who escaped from prison in 2022 after faking his death, may follow in the footsteps of his lover and challenge the procedure followed upon his re-arrest last month in Arusha, Tanzania.
Tshireledzo Ndou, Bester’s lawyer, told SABC News that the legal team is considering following the path taken by suspected accomplice Dr Nandipha Magudumana.

Dr Nandipha Magudumana’s urgent court application to have her arrest in Tanzania declared unconstitutional was heard briefly last Friday by the Free State High Court in Bloemfontein before being postponed to Thursday.
She wants the court to rule that her arrest and “abduction” in Tanzania, as well as her repatriation to South Africa, were wrong and unlawful.

Bester’s lawyer Ndou explains, “We might be considering going through the same route, but there’s just a few aspects that we want to canvas with the client before that decision is taken as final. So that matter as much as we have not taken action yet, but it’s not off the table. It’s still something that we are discussing with the client and amongst us as a team.”
