Zodwa Wabantu was introduced to the public as an exotic dancer. Promoters and event organisers hired her to dance half-naked on countertops. According to recent rumours, the controversial and outspoken Zodwa Wabantu Libram is facing financial difficulties and is on the verge of bankruptcy.
Zodwa says that this could not be further from the truth. She may be getting fewer reservations, but she is still able to maintain her standard of living. Zodwa claims that she has never had a lavish life; she has always been a humble girl, and she will remain such.

“I’m not a flashy person. I have always lived a simple life. I don’t wear make-up or put on weaves and I focus on investing my money in things that matter,” she says.
“Yes, I will admit that the bookings are not the same. But this is because of the economic climate. Everyone is struggling, and the cost of living has gone up. But for me, it is because I have chosen to invest my money and more of my time edlozini.
“Everything I do these days is to appease idlozi,” Zodwa says she was recently invited to attend the Amapinao nominations party but had to turn them down.
“I know when I got there, I have to buy something sexy to wear, get my make-up, and fix my hair. I had to choose between saving that money for idlozi because it will benefit me in the end,” she added.
Zodwa claims she has reduced her expenditure on pricey champagne, something she used to do. “I had to put my spirituality first because I know whatever scarifies I make will reward me in the future,” she said.
The dancer is still playing around half-naked on bar counters and stripping naked in front of a crowd. She said, “If I was broke, I would talk about it, I am an open book.
“Nothing of mine is a secret. Dancing naked pays my bills. It’s who I am and that is what people love about me. I am free, I don’t fake it and I will never stop until the time is right.
“Let’s not put fear on brokenness as black people and society. There’s nothing wrong with being broke at times or going through financial strains, as long as you work on fixing things. Mina, I have never cried to anyone for money for groceries.”
Talking about her journey as a traditional healer, Zodwa said, “Kunzima. It’s emotional. It’s difficult. I didn’t choose it. It’s showing me that it’s time for me to slow down on the parties. But all things happen in their own time.
“I am getting stronger spiritually. I have Amagedla, Abaalozi, Izithunywa Zamanzi, and Ngiyabona. I have dreams, I see things, I have visions and angihambingedwa. It’s a tough gift to have, but I never forget that it is a gift for the chosen few.”

She recently posted some wild creatures, prompting some to call her a witch and uthwele.
“I bumped into the animals. I don’t go out of my way to kill them. They are gifts from amadlozi. I’m a hunter. It’s deep and not something that can be explained in one sentence. People said ngithwele. I can’t keep explaining myself to people. They will always judge me,” Zodwa Wabantu said.
