The pair was married and lived in Msogwaba Trust with their children, according to Monica Nyuswa, the provincial spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA).
Gwebu entered a guilty plea to the allegations levelled against her.
Gwebu revealed in her plea explanation to the court that she had five insurance policies for her husband, one of which had to pay out R530 000 upon his death.
They grabbed him and strangled him in front of his wife.
When they left the residence, the hitmen dropped Gimba’s body into a nearby river before fleeing.
According to the court, Gwebu paid the hitmen R20,000 for the murder. Gimba’s body was discovered in the river by a passer-by two days after he was killed.
The person notified Gimba’s family, and police were dispatched to the spot.

Gwebu was only apprehended a year after the murder when one of the hitmen confessed and was implicated in the killing.
State advocate Eugene Mathebula told the court that the murder was deliberate, cruel, and motivated by greed.
The presiding judge saw no reason to vary from the mandatory minimum sentence of life in prison.
