In a shooting battle with police in Olifantsfontein on Monday morning, two alleged armed robbers were killed and another was severely injured.
This comes after men of the police crime intelligence obtained information that suspects in Ekurhuleni were planning an armed robbery and auto hijacking.

According to police spokeswoman Lt-Col Mavela Masondo, a multidisciplinary team of law enforcement officials has been formed to keep an eye on the suspects.
Ekurhuleni Central Crime Intelligence, the South African Police Highway Patrol Unit, Gauteng Traffic Police, Tracker Connect, and Bad Boys Security were among those involved.
Masondo said, “The team spotted three suspects driving a GWM SUV and intercepted them. The suspects fired shots at the team and a shoot-out ensued.”
The suspects’ vehicle was struck by a fence while fleeing the battle scene, leaving two of them killed, and the third person injured.
Masondo stated that no law enforcement personnel were hurt.
He said, “Police recovered three unlicensed firearms used by the suspects during the shoot-out.

“Preliminary investigation revealed the vehicle driven by the suspects was reportedly hijacked in Sandringham earlier this month and was fitted with false registration number [plates].”
The injured suspect will face charges including conspiracy to conduct armed robbery, possession of unauthorised firearms and ammunition, possession of a hijacked vehicle, and attempted murder.
