On Friday morning, commuters did not hold back after an alcohol truck lost its load in Fourways, Gauteng.
What began as a typical morning of heavy rush-hour traffic on William Nicol Drive quickly devolved into destruction.
The Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) reported that its officers flocked to the scene after learning that the truck had lost its load due to the rain.

The truck had already left by the time they arrived, but beer bottles were scattered across the road.
Swarms of people flocked to the scene from all directions. Some people ran back with bottles (or cases) of liquor in their hands after leaving their car doors open.
When they saw what was being offered on the road, other people were shouting, “Driver emisha taxi,” which can be loosely translated to “Driver, stop the taxi!”

“Officers attending the scene assisted in clearing the broken beer bottles from the roadway for traffic to flow,” said JMPD’s Xolani Fihla.
Fihla urged motorists to drive cautiously in wet weather, slow down, and maintain a safe following distance.
Throughout last week, Johannesburg has been inundated with rain. More showers and thunderstorms are expected, according to the South African Weather Service.
