On Saturday, three persons lost their lives when a moving car collided with a stationary vehicle at the scene of an accident on the N12 motorway outside Wolmaransstad, North West.
North West Emergency Medical Services and other medical service providers reportedly responded to a car accident around two in the morning.
“It is alleged that one of the light motor vehicles (Toyota Fortuner) hit a pedestrian and was on the side of the road attending to him when another vehicle came from the back and collided with them.
“Unfortunately the pedestrian and two occupants of the Toyota Fortuner were declared dead on scene by the paramedics,” said North West Emergency Medical Service spokesperson, Benedict Ledwaba.
According to him, the two passengers from the second vehicle were taken in severe condition to different hospitals in Wolmaransstad and Klerksdorp.
“ER24 paramedics and another service arrived on the scene at 05h45 to find a bus blocking the left-hand lane, partially on top of the barriers. Several people were seen seated along the roadside.
“Medics assessed the patients and found only three adults from the 70 passengers had sustained minor injuries. Fortunately, no serious injuries or fatalities were found,” said spokesperson Russel Meiring.
The injured were taken to a local hospital for additional treatment.
In other news, an eight-month-old baby is in critical condition after surviving a horrific crash on the N3 highway that killed her mother.
The collision happened on Monday afternoon near the Lions River off-ramp in KwaZulu-Natal, according to Midlands Emergency Services.
“On arrival crews were met with a tragic scene where a single motor vehicle had collided with the rear of a truck that was stationary in the emergency lane.”
