AmaZulu coach Romain Folz was coy to speak about the future arrival of midfielder Celimpilo Ngema, who is expected to join them in July.
Our sources recently confirmed that Ngema has signed a pre-contract with Usuthu, as his current deal with Marumo Gallants will expire in June and won’t be renewed.
Ngema will face his future employers at the Moses Mabhida Stadium when Usuthu host the Limpopo side on Saturday (20:00).
Usuthu beat a host of clubs who were interested in the attacking midfielder, with the player having worked with Folz before at Gallants in the Frenchman’s short stint with the club at the start of this term.
“At this moment Ngema is a player of Marumo Gallants, so I do not make comments on players of other teams,” said Folz.
“I’m not going to comment at the moment.”
Ngema joined Gallants at the beginning of the 2020/21 season from another KwaZulu-Natal side in Uthongathi FC.
The 25-year-old has made 82 appearances since then, including 16 league starts this season, scoring 12 goals in the process.
Sources have told iDiski Times, signing Ngema was some kind of way of revenge on Gallants boss Abram Sello after Usuthu were interested in the signing of Ndabayithethwa Ndlondlo at the beginning, with a R3 million fee agreed by both parties.
But when Orlando Pirates came knocking, Gallants changed their stance, selling the player to the Soweto giants instead, angering Usuthu management in reneging in the agreement.
Gallants will face Usuthu propping the bottom spot in the DStv Premiership table with 14 points after 17 matches. They have won just two matches – against TS Galaxy and Cape Town City respectively – this season so far.
These victories came under coach Dan Malesela, with the one against Galaxy coming in his first game in charge, while Folz did not pick up any win during his five games in charge of Gallants.
