SuperSport United defender Luke Fleurs admits it’s been flattering to be linked with a move to Kaizer Chiefs this season.
The 22-year-old South Africa international defender is regarded as one of the nation’s finest prospects and has become a regular for SuperSport over the last three seasons.
He was subject of interest from Amakhosi in recent months but club CEO Stan Matthews and Head Coach Gavin Hunt issued a hands-off warning before he eventually committed to a new contract with the Tshwane-based oufit.
“My mind was a little… [thinking] I was leaving this season or something will happen this season, but I renewed [my contract] and I’m happy now again,” Fleurs said when asked by iDiski Times at the club’s training ground on Friday morning.
“I’m looking forward to just keep going with SuperSport throughout this season and you know what happens after that, we will see what comes my way, and yeah, hopefully, [going] abroad wouldn’t be bad so we’ll see what happens.”
The reigning PSL Young Footballer of the Season went on to add that it’s been flattering having his name bandied about linked with the Soweto giants but he’s now focused on achieving the 2022/23 season objectives with Matsatsansa.
“For me, it shows the work I’m putting in, people are [noticing] it, it’s not just me putting in work just to stay at SuperSport and there are other big teams interested. It’s nice to see your name out there [in the media] because it wasn’t out there.
“I came from nothing and now and now your name is just everywhere so, it’s nice to see it actually but I have a job here at SuperSport and I’ll keep doing my job at SuperSport.”
Fleurs has racked up 67 appearances for the three-time league winners, scoring twice, since joining the club from Ubuntu FC in July 2018.
