Golden Arrows co-coach Vusi Vilakazi says he will speak to his management not to play Kaizer Chiefs at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in future because over the years it gives away the advantage.
Arrows were defeated by Amakhosi 2-0 at the 2010 World Cup semi-final venue on Saturday when the DStv Premiership resumed over the weekend.
Chiefs controlled the game for the large parts of the first half and made use of that as Caleb-Bonfils Bimenyimana and Edmilson Dove scored the goals to take all the points and strengthened their place in the top four.
Interestingly, since the Moses Mabhida Stadium was opened for local games after the 2010 World Cup, Chiefs have only defeated Arrows when the game has been held there and not in any of the township venues of Abafana Bes’Thende.
Arrows have also never defeated Chiefs at the Moses Mabhida Stadium, with their first game at the venue between the two sides ending in a draw on 9 February 2010 four months before the World Cup took place.
But Arrows have defeated Chiefs only when they have been playing at Princess Magogo Stadium, doing that last season when coach Arthur Zwane was interim coach in April last year.
Arrows also beat Chiefs twice in KwaMashu in 2018 when Clinton Larsen was in charge, with the former club coach not in favour of playing Chiefs at the Moses Mabhida Stadium because he felt everything favoured the Soweto giants.
Baffling, Vilakazi said he was never told the reasons why they played Chiefs at the Moses Mabhida Stadium, but it is something he will speak to his management in future.
Initially, the game was supposed to have been played at Princess Magogo Stadium, but since this game took place during the festive season, the club expected more fans to come, leading to change the venue.
“I wouldn’t know why we brought them here, I think the management can respond to that question,” reflected Vilakazi.
Ironically, Chiefs is also using the venue as their home ground this season after they resumed their partnership with City of Ethekwini.
“If I can recall from today, I can see that all the time we play Chiefs at the Moses Mabhida we face problems,” continued Vilakazi.

“Maybe it is something I can try and stamp my authority in terms of our next game, that ‘no, no, no, it’s not about fan attendance, it’s not about gate-takings, it’s about the three points that are very important’.
“But I wouldn’t know the reasons (why we played there). I only saw the field that is equal to that of Magogo and that has four lines. But it’s fine.”
