Former Mamelodi Sundowns and Bafana Bafana midfielder Matty Pattison has officially retired from any involvement in football.
Matty Pattison calls it quits at the age of 36 after a career spanning 20 years, both playing and coaching.
After retiring from playing in 2021, he was now involved in coaching at development level.
Pattison was born in Johannesburg but his family moved to England in the late 90s.
He started his career in the Newcastle development structures until his promotion to the senior team in 2006. The left-footed player moved to Norwich City during the 2008/09 season.
A lot of South African football supporters got to know him when he joined Mamelodi Sundowns in 2009 where he spent three seasons.
Pattison, who went on to play for Santos and Bidvest Wits after his Sundowns spell, says he wants to focus full-time on his property business.

MATTY PATTISON GRATEFUL
The player took to social media on Saturday evening to announce his retirement.
“Wow what a year it’s been, so much to be positive about. When I got involved in property, I never thought it would go as well as it has so quickly.
“First time in 20 years I will leave football behind and go full time with my property investment company. Happy New Year everyone,” he announced.
“Feeling the love from all the Sundowns and South African family tonight, was a pleasure playing for you all.”
Pattison first got his Bafana Bafana call up in November 2010 in a friendly match against the USA. He only played five times for South Africa.
Amongst the club, Pattison played for Gateshead, South Shields, and Whickham (He was also named manager in 2019).
In 2022 was announced as a lead coach for i2i Soccer Academy. He also took the role of head of youth development at Whickham FC in June 2022.
