Hleza, who worked for the Msukaligwa Local Municipality, was arrested on suspicion of corruption and released after posting an R1 500 bond.
According to the Sunday Times, the CCMA concluded that Hleza’s explanation—that he took the R200 because he needed to buy a cool drink because it had been a hot day—was dubious.
The commissioner decided that his termination was justifiable.
In other news, a chief traffic officer from the Sakhisizwe Local Municipality in the Eastern Cape was sentenced to eight years in prison for giving out driving licences to “undeserving people” in exchange for cash.

Additionally, a traffic officer in KZN is jailed for three years after accepting a R800 bribe. A woman was informed by Sandile Lloyd Nene, 43, that she might be subject to a R800 fine because the lights on her car were too close to the tyres.
The woman had only R200 on her. Nene was arrested while accepting the balance on another occasion.
