According to reports, some of the donkey carts provided to the villagers in Mahikeng, in the North West, as a mode of transportation, broke down after just one use.
Locals reportedly complained about the products’ poor design and usability in The Sunday Times.

According to IOL, the government spent about R780 000 on 20 donkey carts to help Dibono and Manawana villagers get to hospitals and schools.
The community safety division of North West said that these carts would aid in easing transportation issues faced by the rural community.
Sello Lehari, a MEC for community safety, defended the project and urged people not to spread untrue information on social media.
The report states that the cost of the carts varied, starting at R32 500 for a two-seater and going up to R45 500 for a four-seater.
This week, though, the business that the government allegedly claimed to have purchased the donkey carts from distanced itself from the project.

The 22-year-old Mpho Ramongalo, director of LKT Business Enterprise, reportedly told the Sunday Times that she had no knowledge of the project.
Additionally, the mother of the woman claimed that she was unaware of her daughter’s role as the supplier and that they didn’t even a business bank account.
She added to The Sunday Times that she anticipated the MEC’s response because her daughter’s reputation had taken a hit.
Oshebeng Alpheus Koonyaditse, a spokesman for the North West transport department, said he would investigate Ramongalo’s claims.
It has been revealed that three carts have already broken down or are showing signs of defects.
According to Goitseone Gwai, a 39-year-old community member from Dibono, the person who designed the carts had never used a cart before.
He has gone back to using his old donkey cart from 2011 which he paid R1 800 for, the Sunday Times reported.
